Guides for Fasting and Abstinence
The
Roman
Catholic Church’s Practice
of fasting
asks
all members
from ages 18 through 59 to
refrain from eating between meals and to limit their eating to
one full meal and two lighter meals for the day (except for
medical reasons) on Ash
Wednesday and Good Friday.
The
Church’s
Practice
of abstinence asks
members 14 years of age
and older to make a
personal form of self-sacrifice on Fridays.
In the United States, all Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence
from meat.
Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are
days of both fasting and abstinence from meat.
Our parish
encourages all members to keep the spirit of the Lenten season
and try to fast on all the
weekdays
of Lent
- Monday
through Saturday (Sundays are always excluded from Fasting).
